Document Preparation
Document preparation is a service to help you through the often complex or confusing forms the courts may require in your case. Document preparers will not be able to give you legal advice, nor will they be able to assist you with a hearing should it be necessary. What a document prep service will do is make sure that all forms are filled out completely and correctly, helping you correct any errors or fill in any missing pieces and assure that there are no necessary forms left out of your file.
Particularly useful if you and your spouse are in agreement, document preparation is a fast, affordable alternative to an attorney. However, if you and your spouse do not agree, or your case is particularly complicated necessitating legal advice, the attorney may be the better route. If you feel that you and your spouse might reach an agreement if you just had some help, see mediation.
